TRAVELLING IN EGYPT

With its strong Arab culture and desert landscape, Egypt contrasts sharply to the Africa experienced further South. For decades, people have been fascinated by the history and legends of ancient Egypt and drawn to the countries wealth of ancient monuments. This has spawned a well established tourism industry supported by good infrastructure offering a safe and truly remarkable experience. The longest river in the world, the great River Nile, is the lifeblood of Egypt that threads through the bleak desert landscape, offering relaxed river cruising that brings welcome respite from the hot and often crowded ancient sites to be found at the various docking points on your journey. The bustling megalopolis of Cairo with a population of over 20 million is an exciting destination, featuring the great tourism icons of the ancient pyramids of Giza and the housing famous treasures, such as those found in King Tutankhamon's tomb, in the Museum of Antiquities.

Active Africa guides have hosted travellers on numerous river cruises along the Nile and led many tours around the ancient sites in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. Extensive experience by boat, camel, horse drawn carriage, bus, on foot and by bicycle in these areas has resulted in a network of contacts that allows us to break out of the tourism bubble to discover some of the real Egypt.
